Choosing the name of a musical group is usually the responsibility of the author and leader. Usually the name comes by itself, since the author presents in advance the direction of the repertoire and the images of the performers. But in some cases, the search for a sonorous short name is delayed and takes a significant amount of time.
Instructions
Step 1
If you are the author and have not yet found the full composition, find the title by this principle. Write down all the requirements for the repertoire of the future group: style, complexity, genre, number and gender of performers, timbres, etc. Write each characteristic on a new line. Just in case, write down the translations of these characteristics into other languages you know: English, French, Spanish, Latin.
Step 2
On another sheet, write down in the same column the requirements for the subject matter of the lyrics, philosophy, and in general everything that you will express in the project through words. Next write similar translations into other languages.
Step 3
On the third sheet, write down the requirements for the stage characters of the performers, features of choreography and scenography, characteristic details of costumes, colors and everything else that can be associated with gesture and plasticity. Write translations again.
Step 4
Cut the sheets into posts. Combine words from all three sheets with each other. If necessary, change the form of the word, make nouns adjectives, and vice versa. Use words from different languages to get the best sound.
Step 5
Eliminate lists and columns one at a time, leaving only two words. The procedure takes a long time, but be sure: among this huge variety of combinations, there is sure to be a name that you will like.
Step 6
If the group members have already been recruited, then the name can be the sum of birth dates, the first or last letters of names or surnames, elements of the names of hometowns. Write down all the common features in several columns according to the first principle and combine them until you find a name that suits you completely. As with the previous method, use the same names in different languages to increase the number of options and expand the selection.
Step 7
In any case, before making a final decision, make a list of names that you like equally or just might work. Then gradually weed out unnecessary options until there is only one name left.
