Instructions

Step 1

When learning a foreign language, memorizing a large array of new words comes to the fore. The ability to quickly and effectively memorize vocabulary is also important for learning your native language: when mastering any subject, you always have to face new terminology. Determine for yourself the daily rate of memorization of new words, starting from 15-20. Create a separate notebook for this purpose, in which you divide the pages into three columns. In the first column, write down the word itself, in the second - the transcription (if you need it), in the third - the translation or interpretation of the word. Say aloud all the new words. Then close the translation and try to name it without prompting. Now close the new words themselves and try to reproduce them the other way around, translating from Russian. Set aside the notebook for 1 hour, then repeat again. Return to the same lexical block the next day.

Step 2

Imagine the word itself and the image associated with it. Come up with a certain association related to its sound. It is better that the associations are bright and even humorous. For example, the English phrase “traffic jam” is easy to remember, if you imagine cars in the form of large berries, from which jam is slowly made. Any word, especially a polysemantic one, is better remembered in context. Practice writing simple phrases with new words, and then they will be stored in memory much faster.

Step 3

You can write out individual words on cards by marking the translation on the back. You can take such cards with you on the road, to work or study, and at any free moment you can refer to them, checking your memory. Cards with especially difficult words can also be made on stickers by pasting them at your workplace or at home. So they will constantly catch your eye and gradually be remembered. Download on the Internet or purchase a disc with a special program for memorizing words, for example, the popular ABBYY Lingvo, Words Teacher or BX Language Acquisition. When you work on a computer, a window with a new word that you have previously entered will appear on the screen at regular intervals. You will have to type its translation, and then the window will close.
