A chair cover is an indispensable option if you need to update old furniture. In addition, matched by color, it can harmoniously link existing chairs with the new interior of the room, or simply make the hard chair seat more comfortable and warm. Chair covers today can be easily ordered in any atelier, but if you yourself know how to sew at least a little, make the covers yourself.
It is necessary
suitable fabric for the top and for the lining of the product, synthetic winterizer, batting or foam rubber for the inner soft layer, decorative tape or Velcro, needles, threads, scissors, buttons, paper and pencil
Instructions
Step 1
First of all, you need to make a pattern for the future cape. To do this, simply hold a large sheet of paper tightly against the seat of the chair and trace the outline of the seat underneath. If you're sewing a stool cover, place a piece of paper on the floor, place an upside-down stool on top of it, and circle the seat. Add about 2 cm to the resulting sketch so that the cape extends slightly beyond the edges of the chair and 2 cm at the seams. If you want to make the cover bulky, add the thickness of the foam as well. Cut the resulting pattern and transfer it to the fabric from the wrong side.
Step 2
Cut out the same piece of fabric for the top and fabric for the lining, as well as a piece of foam that is equal to the seat of the chair, that is, a pattern without allowances for seams and edges. Sew the fabric parts together from the inside out, leaving a small hole for inserting the filler. Turn the blank out and place the foam inside. Then sew the hole and be sure to quilt the workpiece: sew it crosswise or in a spiral several times. At the intersection of the seams, you can sew buttons covered with the same fabric from which you sew the cape. If the cape turns out to be chubby enough and cannot be stitched, just get by with a few buttons sewn in a certain order. Keep in mind that they should be sewn on, grasping not only the upper fabric, but also the entire thickness of the cover.
Step 3
Now you need to attach the cover to the chair. You can sew decorative tape to the edges of the cover in the color of the cape. She will tie the cape to the chair by the legs or back.
Step 4
It is safer to cut out straps about 3-4 cm wide from the main fabric and sew Velcro to them. By attaching the straps along the edges of the cape, you can glue the Velcro to each other under the chair seat, thereby the cover will adhere well to your furniture.
Step 5
The last moment is decorating the cape for the chair. It all depends on your imagination and your interior. You can sew tape along the edge of the cape, lengthen the cape to the floor and hide the chair legs, use fringes, scallops, ribbons and bows. The main thing is that the decorations in no way interfere with the use of the cape for its intended purpose, that is, do not create inconveniences while sitting on a chair.
