Felt is a useful and convenient material, easy to work with, does not wrinkle in use and allows you to create great things even for children. The advantage of felt is that it can not only be sewn, but also glued, while the product retains its attractive appearance. An owl keychain made of felt can decorate keys, a phone, and during winter holidays it can play the role of a Christmas tree toy.
Preparatory work
Use a 1mm material to create the owl. If you are faced with a choice, give preference to blended felt, which consists of 60% viscose and 40% wool. Choose colors based on your personal preference.
For work you will need: - Threads of floss. You can choose to match felt or a contrasting shade. - Plastic eyes. Select a part with a diameter within 10 mm. - Several beads. - Holofiber or synthetic winterizer for filling. - Glue. - Sewing needle. - Tailor's pins. - Scissors.
Pattern of details
Print or draw your own template. Pin it to a piece of felt and trace with a pencil. Keep in mind that there will be two parts of the body. In the same way, circle the belly of the owl using the lighter felt. As a result of cutting, you should get 4 parts of the wings, 2 bodies, 2 pairs of legs, 1 base of the eyes and 1 beak.
Owl assembly
Decorate the owl's tummy with plumage before connecting the pieces. Use threads of a contrasting color for this. Feathers are made with small triangular stitches. In the same way, you can decorate the wings of a wise bird. Please note that on the wings, the feathering will only be on the front, so you do not need to decorate two parts with stitches.
Sew the two parts of the wing together using an overcast buttonhole seam and threads to match the wings. Sew the tummy to the front of the owl's body. Work with a needle forward seam. Using the same seam, attach the base of the owl's eyes and beak.
Next, attach the plastic eyes. To do this, apply a small amount of glue to the back of the part and press firmly against the base of the eyes. Do the job carefully, as excess glue can ruin the appearance of the keychain.
Attach the front of the body to the back and pin it off with pins. Sew the details together with the overcast buttonhole seam with threads to match the felt.
Holofiber will help to give "fatness" to the owl. Place the required amount of filler through the small hole between the two pieces. After that, sew up the hole, not forgetting to insert and firmly fasten the owl's legs. At the final stage, sew on the wings, reinforcing them with small beads.
Further actions depend on the purpose of the owl. For the keychain, sew on a loop on top, if the owl flaunts on the refrigerator, glue a magnet, and if you play the role of a brooch, sew a special mount on the back.
