The history of cinematography is only one hundred years old, during which the industry has experienced three qualitative leaps. First, sound appeared in films, which was later added to old tapes. Then the audience saw the first colors on the film - and, soon, a way was found to color the already released pictures. It is not surprising that with the advent of the "volumetric" image, a new wave of "restorations" began, under which the legendary "Titanic" also fell.

Of course, no one re-shot the film. Local 3D is a computer effect superimposed on the original version of the 1997 film. The director of the film, James Cameron, wanted to add some volume to Titanic back in 2004 when he started developing Avatar, however, for obvious reasons, there was no time for that.

The delay was only beneficial to the conversion - filming the epic about the planet "Pandora" gave Cameron an endless experience with 3D and a clear idea of how to achieve maximum depth of the picture.

The re-release of the tape was timed to coincide with the centenary of the shipwreck. More than 300 artists spent $ 18,000,000 for 15 months of work - by the way, usually, conversion takes 3-4 months. Cameron personally watched each episode and edited the slightest nuances, after which he admitted that making a three-dimensional film is much easier than adding an effect in post-production.

If you do not go into the details of the technological process, then the 3D technology can be described as "convergence" of two pictures. In any hall, the viewer, taking off his glasses, will see that the image on the screen doubles: close objects are literally duplicated, distant ones are only slightly smeared. To simplify the explanation, we can say that the artist's task is to "calculate" the distance to each point on the screen and add the corresponding bifurcation effect to the frame.

In many films the issue is solved simply: 2-3 layers are introduced (foreground, center, background) and the action turns into a theater of cardboard figurines (“Destination 4”). Obviously, the highest-grossing director in history would not have allowed such a "trash": in his own words, fanaticism went almost to the detailed drawing of individual hairs of the characters.

The equipment for the screening of the film also plays an important role. The final part of the development was the "optimization" of the picture for different technologies: today "volume" is created using IMAX, RealD, Dolby 3D technologies, each of which has its own advantages and disadvantages, which had to be taken into account in order to present the viewers with the most reliable image.
