Pirates of the Caribbean was conceived as a screen version of one of the most popular attractions found in Disneylands around the world. Initially, the producers of the Disney film company were talking about only one film, but the premiere of this adventure comedy, which took place in 2003, provided the creators with such a box office that several more sequels to Pirates were subsequently filmed.

Unlike most Hollywood blockbusters, Pirates of the Caribbean had a backstory not in the form of a book or comic book, but in the form of an amusement park. To maintain interest in one of the largest attractions in Disneyland, the bosses of the Walt Disney Pictures film company proposed filming an adventure comedy, the protagonists of which would be pirates. An original script was developed, the main feature of which was an unconventional plot: instead of the classic search for gold, the ship's team, led by Captain Barbossa, tried to get rid of the precious metal in order to remove the terrible spell from itself.

Initially, Captain Jack Sparrow played a minor role in Pirates of the Caribbean. However, at the very first auditions, actor Johnny Depp behaved in the image of Jack so surprisingly and organically that the director decided to give this hero a chance. And he made the right decision. It was Jack, with his shaky morality and boundless charm, who became the flagship of the whole picture and one of the best roles of Johnny Depp. The success of the "Pirates", the first part of which was called "The Curse of the Black Pearl", was provided by the romantic story of the governor's daughter Elizabeth (Keira Knightley) and the pirate son, the blacksmith Will (Orlando Bloom).

After the triumphant release of the film, Captain Jack Sparrow appeared in the American Disneyland amusement park, and director Gore Verbinski, without postponing the lucrative business on the back burner, began filming the sequel. In the second and third parts of "Pirates" all the same main characters - Jack, Elizabeth, Will, Barbossa - were mainly engaged in the battle with Davy Jones, the sea devil in the flesh.

Unlike most blockbusters, which, as a rule, are filmed in the pavilions or not at all in the country about which the film is talking, "Pirates" was created in the Caribbean. The first film was filmed mainly in Grenada, an island in the southeastern Caribbean, while the second and third films owe their scenic views to the island of Dominica, located in the Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean.

The creators did not save on props either. So, in all the films, Jack Sparrow brandished an antique sword and a pistol of the 18th century; the rest of the heroes had weapons, though not so valuable, but also real.

Expensive shooting paid off with interest: the total receipts from the screenings of the three parts of "Pirates of the Caribbean" amounted to more than two billion dollars. After this news, the producer of the films Jerry Bruckheimer decided not to dwell on the trilogy: having changed the director, he began preparations for the next, fourth part of "Pirates", this time in 3D. Moreover, Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides became the first film in which both interior and outdoor scenes were filmed with a three-dimensional Red 3D camera.

Despite the absence in the fourth part of "Pirates" Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley (who were partially replaced by Penelope Cruz and her sultry pirate Angelica), the film was again a success. In 2013, the next, fifth film is expected to be released, which will become a new, but still not the final part of one of the most popular film projects of the 21st century.
