Seedlings of petunia and its seeds are very inexpensive, and the process of growing this pretty flower is quite affordable for a novice gardener.
To grow petunia from seeds at home, on a windowsill or balcony, sow petunia seeds in cups (plastic, cardboard or special ones that are sold in the store for this purpose).
Pour neutral soil into glasses and sow petunia seeds (only superficially, not dusting with earth). Then pour water over and cover each cup with cling film, a piece of plastic bag, glass, if desired.
When shoots appear, periodically air the petunia by opening your mini-greenhouses once or twice a day for just a short time. After the appearance of a real leaf or two, you can completely remove the film or glass from the cups.
Helpful hint: you can germinate petunias in a large pot or a box of soil, but imitating a greenhouse with them is not as easy as in the case of small cups. You can also germinate petunia on peat tablets, which are easily placed in a large transparent plastic box from under a cake or pastries.
After the first leaves have appeared, sprinkle the seedlings of petunia with earth or a chip, slightly deepen each plant so that the roots develop better.
In order for the petunia to branch, and not stretch out with a long boring stem, it is worth pinching it. In this case, each plant will have several branches and each can bloom, otherwise there will be one flower at the end of the long branch. By the way, remember that petunia does not like cramped pots and blooms very inactively in them.
