Sometimes it becomes necessary to place books in a certain place. Standard bookshelves may not fit due to their size. But there is a way out: you can make a bookshelf yourself.

How to make a bookshelf

It is necessary

  • - plywood or fiberboard 4–5 mm thick;
  • - wooden planed board about 30 cm wide and 15 - 20 mm thick;
  • - self-adhesive decorative paper;
  • - sandpaper;
  • - drill;
  • - a hacksaw for wood;
  • - Phillips screwdriver;
  • - carpentry square;
  • - furniture fixing screws Ø 4 - 5 mm and length 5 - 6 cm;
  • - self-tapping screws Ø 2mm and a length of 1.5 cm;

Instructions

Step 1

In order to make a bookshelf with your own hands, prepare a workplace, material and tools. A hacksaw needs a fine-toothed one to cut the board smoother. All surfaces of the board should be flat and smooth, without chips, knots or dents. With a square to the side of the board, draw a line at a right angle across the entire width of the board. Using a square, continue a line around the entire board. The ends of the line must match. This is the cut edge line. She is always on the detail.

Step 2

Make a shallow cut across the entire width of the board. Make sure that the edge of the notch goes straight along the line. Continue the cut along the entire line. Lay the board flat and, holding the hacksaw tilted, saw through the entire board. The resulting saw cut will be the butt end of the part.

Step 3

From the end, measure the distance required for the height of the shelf. Saw off the part, holding it so that it does not break off at the end. Sand the ends of the part so that they become even and smooth. Make another part in the same way. These will be the side walls of the shelf.

Step 4

From the required distance of the length of the shelf, subtract the double thickness of the side wall and mark the cut line on the board. In accordance with the above points, make two horizontal parts.

Step 5

From the ends of the side parts, mark a distance equal to half the thickness of the board. Use a square to draw lines across the width of the board. Make marks on the lines at a distance of 5 cm from the sides. These are the centers of the fastener holes. With a drill, the diameter of which should be slightly less than the diameter of the screw, use a drill to drill through vertical holes.

Step 6

At the ends of the horizontal parts of the future bookshelf, mark the centers of the holes. Drill the holes in the ends to a depth equal to the length of the screw minus the thickness of the board. Using a screwdriver, screw the screws through the side parts into the horizontal ones so that they touch tightly. The bookshelf frame is ready.

Step 7

Place the frame on top of plywood or fiberboard and draw a pencil around the outer contour. Cut out the workpiece along the line and glue it with self-adhesive paper. Screw the rear wall of the shelf on the back of the frame with self-tapping screws. The wall should face the inside of the shelf. The shelf is finished.
