- - ready-made handkerchief or cotton, linen, silk fabric;
- - hoop;
- - threads for embroidery, for example, floss;
- - needles for embroidery.
Instructions
Step 1
Get a ready-made handkerchief or, if you want to sew it yourself, a piece of cotton, linen, or silk. Cut a square out of the material and finish over the edges. Wash the product, this will prevent the fabric from shrinking in the future and deformation of the embroidered pattern.
Step 2
Choose the motif you want to depict on the scarf. When deciding on a motive, be guided by your embroidery skills, ability to work in a particular technique, the availability of special equipment, for example, an embroidery machine. For beginners, a simple monogram pattern on one of the edges of the scarf, made with a chain stitch or stalk stitch, is optimal. Skilled needlewomen can create a complex satin stitch pattern around the perimeter of the product. If you are going to embroider with a counted cross, pay attention to the fact that the crosses should be located in strict accordance with the weaving of the threads of the material.
Step 3
Find your embroidery thread. Use a floss or special machine embroidery thread. Make sure the threads are not shedding.
Step 4
Use a pencil to draw on the fabric if you are using satin stitch, chain stitch, stem stitch, or rococo knots. For cross stitching, sew the canvas to be removed to the fabric.
Step 5
Insert the handkerchief into the hoop so that the center of the future design is, if possible, in the middle of this device. Start embroidering.
Step 6
So that there are no knots on the back of the handkerchief, thread the floss into the needle, pick up the weave of the main material with it, bring it to the front side, release the thread. Align both ends, thread into the eye of the needle and sew the first stitch.
Step 7
Finish embroidering. Bring the working thread to the wrong side, hide the end in the stitches.
Step 8
Wash your handkerchief. Place it on a soft flannel fabric and iron it, so the embroidered design will remain voluminous.
