Jacquard is a combination of yarns of different colors in one knitted product in order to obtain a pattern or ornament. Jacquard adorns sweaters, mittens, hats, scarves and many other knitted items, usually made in plain knit.
It is necessary
yarn of two or more colors, knitting needles or crochet hook, pattern or ornament for knitting
Instructions
Step 1
For jacquard crochet, cast on a chain of air loops with a thread of the same color. The number of loops dialed should be a multiple of the rapport, that is, the number of loops of the pattern repetition. Knit the canvas. The most successful crochet jacquard loop is a single crochet. Each cell of the picture of the same color corresponds to one column. When you need to add the next color, take the second thread. Before finishing the last column with the first thread, leave it and grab a new thread. Pull it through the loops to complete the post. Then knit according to the pattern, changing colors. So-called broaches will form on the seamy side of the fabric. Do not stretch them to avoid wrinkling the canvas. Grab them to work every few posts. When you're done knitting, cut in half too long broaches, if any, and weave them into the work.
Step 2
To sew a jacquard pattern with knitting needles, cast on the number of loops in a multiple of the number of loops of the pattern, plus two edge loops. Perform front rows with front loops, purl rows with purl. One cell of the diagram corresponds to one loop. As soon as you need to add a new color, leave the first thread on the wrong side of the work. Insert a knitting needle into the next stitch and grab a new thread. Knit the next few loops of the pattern of this color with a new thread folded in half (that is, the formed tip, also knit into the fabric). When jacquard knitting, as well as crocheting, on the seamy side of the product, broaches from those threads that remain behind work. Try to avoid long broaches. When knitting, pick up a non-working thread from time to time. And it is best to pick up a non-working thread after each loop - then knitting will look very neat from the inside out. Make it a rule to knit as follows: the threads are located on the index finger of the left hand, while the non-working thread is closer to the working one. Run the right needle alternately above and below the non-working thread before picking up the working needle. Then there will be no broaches, and you will be able to show off the wrong side. After all, a neat underside is a sign of true skill.
Step 3
Having gained some skill in knitting jacquard with knitting needles, you can try your hand at knitting double-sided jacquard. With this knitting, there is no seamy side. There is a pattern on both sides of the product, and on one side it is one, and on the other - the same, only the colors change places. The pattern for such knitting is two-color, and the loops at the beginning of knitting are typed in both colors at the same time. Try to type the loops so that the loops of different colors alternate. The first and last loops of the row are always knitted together with the front one. The rest of the loops are knitted according to the figure. The loop of the pattern is knitted with the front one, the second (of a different color) - with the wrong one. Thus, on one side of the canvas, a loop of one color, and on the other, another. When changing the color of the pattern, the threads are reversed. Now knit knit yarn second and purl knit yarn first, this knitting will take longer than a simple one-sided jacquard, but the result will be worth it.
