You can't turn a regular 2-sprocket touring bike into a sports multi-speed bike. However, a simple upgrade at home will help improve the speed performance of even the simplest bike.

Replace the handlebars with a lighter one. Find a lightweight seat that is comfortable for you. Try to ditch the wings altogether. In dry, warm weather, they are not needed, but in mud and slush, you can return the wings to their place. These changes will increase the speed of the bike by reducing its weight.
Step 3
Replace the conventional clip-on pedals. This will allow the bike to accelerate not only by applying pressure to the pedal, but also by pulling the pedal upward. However, to use such pedals, you will have to buy special boots.
Step 4
Try replacing the sprocket on the front wheel of your bike with a sprocket with an increased number of teeth, and replace the sprocket of the rear wheel with a sprocket with a reduced number of teeth. Typically, on sports bicycles, the gear is set fifty-four teeth forward and thirty-six teeth backward. This upgrade makes it harder to pedal uphill, but you can increase the speed of the bike.
Step 5
Bicycle wheel diameters range from 20 "to 28". Larger wheels will increase the speed of the bike, but it will be harder to pedal. In addition, a bike with larger wheels is more stable. Large wheels also provide better flotation, since the wheel can overcome an obstacle no larger than 1/3 of the wheel's diameter.
Step 6
