Step 1
Start by choosing a style. It can be a medieval dress with a corset and a fluffy skirt, a country-style dress - a simpler and more casual cut, usually linen or woolen. Redraw the pattern. You will need to take all the necessary measurements to build it for yourself. In particular, mark the half-girths of the chest and waist, the girth of the hips, the length of the product, the length of the sleeve. You will need to measure the height of the armhole, the volume of the arm near the shoulder.
Step 3
Set aside your measurements on the pattern, adding 1 to 2 centimeters for a loose fit. If you want the dress to be clearly in shape, then you can then sew it in a little, but if it turns out to be small or end-to-end, then it will be difficult to add.
Step 4
Sketch how you can lay out the pattern on the piece of fabric. To do this, pick up the canvas, mark its width. Draw a rectangle proportionally. A dress is laid on it, folded in half along the axis of symmetry - in the center. You will most likely need to purchase two lengths of the dress. That is, measure the desired length of the product and buy fabrics twice as much - for example, you want a dress with a length of 1.35 m, buy at least 2.7 m. If you want the dress to turn out not just to the floor, but with a small train, then increase the length of the product by another 10-20 centimeters.
Step 5
Once you buy a fabric, fold it in half. Set all parts aside on a piece of fabric, circle them with chalk, not forgetting about the seam allowances. Please note that some items of clothing are repeated, and some can be folded in half (along the axis of symmetry). Then the part must be placed on the fabric so that the fold line of the pattern falls on the fold line of the canvas. Unroll the fabric when you cut the item.
Step 6
When you have cut out all the details, sweep them up and try them on. Often, such dresses are sewn with lacing, but this is quite difficult, since the side details will have to be increased so that the lacing loops are also sewn. Therefore, it is optimal to purchase a hidden zipper and insert it into the side seam. The lock is inserted into the closest parts of the product - along the body to the thigh line approximately - to the flared part of the skirt.
Step 7
After making sure that the dress fits properly, you can sew on the details. First, the side seams are performed, the sleeves are sewn, and then the armhole is lined.
Step 8
The finished product needs to be decorated. To this end, sew the tape along the neckline, along the bottom of the sleeves. The tape can run down the center of the dress to the very bottom of the skirt. The lacing on the sleeve will also contribute to styling. It is better to tie it separately, and the lace itself can be sewn to the sleeve just below the shoulder. When putting on a dress, wrap your arm up to the elbow and tie a string or ribbon.
