Instructions

Step 1

To make backgammon, use valuable hardwoods - for example, oak. Find a reliable supplier of high-quality and well-preserved oak planks, and purchase planks 5 cm thick. Buying undried planks, you take responsibility for their further preparation for processing.

Step 2

Dry the boards in a drying chamber, if you have one; if not, purchase already dried boards from companies that have their own drying equipment.

Step 3

Saw the boards into thin planks, from which you will subsequently assemble a flat board that will become the playing field. Separately cut the thin, narrow planks that will become the backgammon frame.

Step 4

A carved drawing will look beautiful on an external wooden field. If you have woodcarving skills, you can make your backgammon even more unique by creating a hand-carved pattern.

Step 5

If you have access to a special milling machine, thread with it. Unlike manual work, the machine helps to create many of the same pattern elements.

Step 6

After the frame and playing fields are ready, cover them with protective impregnations, tinted and varnished. Then go over all the wooden surfaces of the backgammon with a sander and varnish again.

Step 7

Collect backgammon and leave them to lie down for a few days, so that the boards "get used" to each other. After some time, finalize backgammon - cover the playing field with the necessary paints, finish grinding, varnishing and tinting.

Step 8

After the last varnishing, wait a few days for the varnish to completely absorb into the wood and dry. Put the chips and zaras inside the backgammon box, and the finished game can be gifted or used for its intended purpose.
