Instructions

Step 1

You can plant an olive tree using seeds or cuttings brought from southern countries. Before planting, soak the seeds in a 10% alkali solution (caustic soda) for 16-18 hours, then rinse thoroughly and trim the nose of the bone with a pruner. Plant the seeds in prepared pots two to three centimeters deep. Olives grow well in almost any moisture and air permeable soil. Add some charcoal and broken brick to the earthen mixture. The first shoots will appear only after two to three months.

Step 2

The olive tree loves a lot of heat and sun, it tolerates heat up to forty degrees. Bring the container with the plant out into the fresh air in the garden or outdoor veranda in the summer. In winter, keep the tree in a bright but cool room, where the air temperature should be 10-12 degrees.

Step 3

In the summer, provide the plant with regular, but not abundant watering. In winter, the olive tree should be watered rarely, while trying to prevent the earthen coma from drying out. The olive tree is very responsive to fertilizers with a high nitrogen content, which should be applied two to three times a month, starting in April and ending at the end of September. This causes the plant to set buds earlier.

Step 4

For the first five years of the olive tree's life, replant it once a year in early spring and change the topsoil (2-3 centimeters) to a fresher, more fertile one. Then cut back the replanting to once every three years, the old tree every five years.

Step 5

Prune an olive tree growing indoors periodically, while removing diseased and weak branches. Since the plant gives a good growth during the growing season, do anti-aging pruning. Shorten long branches, leave five pairs of leaves. You can safely shape the crown of the tree according to your taste and discretion.
