Perhaps there is nothing more exciting than creating your own collection of aircraft models. It is a hobby that brings children hours of joy and fun. If earlier in the manufacture of aircraft models wood was mainly used as materials, now parts can be made of metal or fiberglass. Some craftsmen use both polystyrene and ordinary office paper or, in the old fashioned way, cardboard. Such models are glued together.
Instructions
Step 1
Pick up the glue. There are several types of adhesives that can be used in aeromodelling. The most common adhesives are those that act by evaporating the solvent. They are ineffective for bonding aircraft made of plastic and metal, and are also famous for their long drying time. Therefore, adhesives have become popular, the action of which is based on a chemical reaction. They set very quickly and are applicable to almost all materials, except for foam. But they have a small drawback - the model can be fragile.
Step 2
The main problem when gluing an aircraft is the occurrence of uneven joints when the sections do not match. There are some simple secrets that allow you to glue the plane most effectively. Sand the joints with fine sandpaper after the glue dries. Use masking tape when applying glue - it will protect the surface from accidental ingestion of the composition.
Step 3
Use the constructors method. Typically, sections of aircraft models that require gluing consist of two frames and a skin. The sheathing can be reinforced with foam or plain paper. So, for example, a "sandwich" made of sheathing, a layer of glue and paper, bends perfectly without creases, and retains its adopted shape after the glue dries. Such preparation of the skin for gluing allows you to avoid irregularities and gaps, as well as to give the part more rigidity.
Step 4
When gluing models that are going to the frame, use thin strips of paper. Stick them on the ribs, then feel free to glue the sheathing to them.
Step 5
Remember that working with glue must be safe, and for this you need to work in a well-ventilated area and protect your hands from quick-drying glue, using gloves and long-sleeved clothing.
