A cute and cozy quilted bedspread is an attribute of country style and shabby chic. It is decorated with embroidery or appliqué, and is also sewn in the patchwork style. Such a bedspread will decorate the bedroom and warm you on cool evenings. The quilted bedspreads have a delicate surface and the delicate stitching makes it a work of art. They are made from different fabrics, for example, silk or satin. However, if this is your first time sewing a quilted bedspread, choose a thick cotton fabric.

It is necessary

cotton fabric, synthetic winterizer or thin batting, needles, threads to match the fabric, sewing machine

Instructions

Step 1

The quilted bedspread consists of three layers. Different fabrics can be used for the top and bottom side. The most important thing is that they match in texture and color. Make the upper part from one piece of fabric or sew from separate shreds. Check in advance if the fabric is shedding and shrinking after washing it.

Step 2

If you want to make a patchwork top, then prepare the patches according to the template. Sew them first into ribbons, and then sew these ribbons together. The blocks must be carefully sized, otherwise the fabric will wrinkle, then your bedspread will turn out to be uneven.

Step 3

Cut out the padding and the bottom to fit slightly larger than the top. Since they will shrink when stitching. Use synthetic winterizer or thin batting as stuffing.

Step 4

Having cut out all three layers of the bedspread, put them together in the following sequence: first the lower one, then the padding, and then the upper one. To prevent the layers from moving when stitching, make a basting. Find the center of the coverlet and pin off the middle with safety pins, then pin off the layers of the coverlet from the middle to the edges.

Step 5

You can sew the bedspread by hand, or you can use a sewing machine for this purpose. On a typewriter it will turn out faster. But in this case, you will need to put it on a large table and substitute chairs next to it, since the area of the product is quite large and it will be rather difficult to quilt. Many modern sewing machines come with a special foot designed specifically for sewing fabrics. This foot provides simultaneous bottom and top feed of the fabric.

Step 6

The stitch is made from the middle of the bedspread to its edges, and the stitches are made from the side opposite to smoothing. After you finish stitching, line up the edges of your bedspread. To do this, trim them with scissors along the top layer.

Step 7

And finally, the last step is the processing of the edges of the bedspread. Baste the hem to the desired width with the right side facing the top of the coverlet. Then wrap the edge with a border, fold it over a wide width and then baste to the underside of the product. Stitch it on with a sewing machine. In this way, process each edge of the bedspread. And to make the corners neat, fold the fabric in the corners. Your bedspread is ready!
