One of the most exciting ways to hunt for pike is to catch it with mugs. This method is good because it allows you to "fish" very large areas along the coastlines of water bodies. Everything you need for such fishing can be bought in specialized stores. However, you can make mugs for pike fishing yourself.

Instructions
Step 1
Find a Styrofoam for making mugs. It is necessary that it be dense enough, preferably fine-grained. Packaging foam is not suitable for this purpose, as it is very soft and very easy to crumble and break. It is necessary to purchase fairly wide sheets of foam with a thickness of 1.5-2 cm.
Step 2
Apply the markings to the styrofoam sheets. Using a pencil and a long ruler, divide the sheets into squares with a side of 22-25 cm. Find the center of each square by drawing its diagonals. Using a compass, draw circles inscribed in squares.
Step 3
Cut out the blanks of the circles. Use a thin hacksaw, very sharp knife, or scalpel to cut the Styrofoam sheets into squares along the lines. Use a jigsaw, knife or scalpel to cut out the circles. File the ends of the circles with a large file if necessary.
Step 4
Make pike mugs. On the side of each of the blanks, cut or grind a flat groove for laying the line approximately 1 cm deep. If necessary, file it or coarse sandpaper. Drill 6-8 mm through holes through the center of the circles. Make two thin slots opposite each other in one of the edges created after creating the groove.
Step 5
Make “masts” to fit on the circles in use. Saw out wooden slats from 8x8x150 to 10x10x180 mm. Sharpen one end of them on the cone so that it fits very tightly into the holes in the centers of the circles. At the other end, create a sawt cut 3 mm wide and 10 mm deep.
Step 6
Line up the circles with fishing line. Its diameter can be in the range of 0.6-1.0 mm (depending on the expected size of the fish), and the length of the free fragment is 2-3 meters. The fishing line must be firmly fixed on the circle by laying and tying it in the end groove.
Step 7
Attach hooks to the mugs. Tie steel leashes 10-15 cm long to the free ends of the lines. Attach triple hooks to the leashes with a sufficiently long forend and a distance from the forend to the tip of 10-12 mm.
