Step 1
First, prepare the surface you will be painting on. It can be paper, glass, wood, plastic and other materials. For the first time, try painting on plywood, stretcher, or canvas. On such a basis, acrylic can easily catch on. Optionally, a layer of paper (textured or for origami) can be glued to the tree. If you decide to do this, then use a special decoupage glue. Cover a wooden surface with it, put paper on top. Use a book, cardboard, or other object to try to remove air bubbles from under the paper. Wait for the glue to dry. Then apply 10 more layers of glue one by one.
The resulting base must be sanded. To do this, moisten it with water and use sandpaper (120 grit). Try to make your drawing surface as smooth as possible.

When the canvas is ready, check the condition of the acrylics. Dry acrylic is very difficult to work with. For the initial acquaintance with such paints, a set of 6 colors will be enough. They mix very easily and give many shades. Prepare a spray bottle. From time to time, it is necessary to moisten the palette so that it does not dry out. Do not try to immediately squeeze out the paint, designed for the entire drawing., This will also help to avoid drying out the paint. Also, to maintain moderate humidity, you can now buy a wet palette. It comes with absorbent paper, which is moistened in water and placed at the bottom of the palette, as well as parchment paper (placed on top of the palette).

Try adjusting the opacity of your paints with water. The more water you add to the paint, the more transparent the color will be. However, it must be remembered that when more than 20% of water is added, the paint may lose its property of being fixed on the surface. For a "soft glow" effect, apply one translucent layer on top of another (after the previous layer has dried). If the acrylic is not thinned too much, a synthetic nylon brush will work. Remember: a thin transparent layer of acrylic dries in 1-2 minutes.

To paint with undiluted acrylic paints, you will need a stiff brush (rectangular and wide). In the process of painting, it is best to first draw large details with a wide brush, and then move on to small ones and use a column brush. Do not stay in the same area, the movements should be fast. If undiluted acrylic is applied in a thin layer, it will dry in 2-3 minutes. A thick layer of acrylic can dry for up to 20 minutes.
Blot the brush from time to time. Do not rush to use a brush after rinsing off the paint with water. Apply the brush to a clean, dry cloth to avoid staining the canvas.
Step 5
Acrylic paints can be thinned not only with water. For interesting glaze or marbling effects, add a glaze or texture paste. Such a paste, creating the desired effect, will slightly muffle the color. But this can be easily corrected by applying varnish to the dried paint (the picture will shine effectively).
Step 6
In addition, these paints can be mixed with each other. You will need an acrylic thinner for this procedure. This substance allows acrylic paints to remain in a "state of life" longer and easier to mix. The thinner can be applied either to the brush or directly onto the canvas. Try to apply paint with the edge of your brush to distribute it evenly. Otherwise, a hard brush will scratch the paint. For proper mixing of acrylic paints, rinse and dry the brush. Move the paints towards each other. In the process, they themselves will begin to mix. Sometimes it will be necessary to add a little water or a special thinner for a homogeneous and even mixing of paints.
Step 7
If you need to draw a perfectly straight line or make the contours as straight and even as possible, then you can use masking tape for these purposes. Stick it on the paint that has already dried well. During the dripping process, new paint will not pick up the undercoat. Remove the masking tape after you have drawn the desired line.
Step 8
If necessary, you can easily learn how to darken and lighten any color. This is done by adding black or white to the paint. Dark colors can be lightened more than lighter ones. Add white with extreme care. Even a small amount can have a profound effect on color. Adding black can darken the painting. Black needs to be handled even more carefully than white. It is necessary to mix any color with black carefully and carefully. Otherwise, unwanted black blotches may occur on already dried paint.
Step 9
