Hand-made bags are now at their peak of popularity. A variety of materials and accessories allows you to boldly carry out any idea, as far as imagination and skill allow. In order for the bag to hold well on your shoulder, you need to think about which handles work best for your model and how to attach them.

It is necessary

  • - leather;
  • - strong cord;
  • - a needle with thread;
  • - scissors;
  • - decorative chains, locks and rings

Instructions

Step 1

Sew the handles directly into the seam of the bag. This is the easiest way and does not require additional fasteners. It is suitable for both rigid rectangular bags and light fabric "bags", where something heavy is rarely put. It should be remembered that this method is not without its drawbacks: if the load on the handles turns out to be excessive, then they will come off along with the fabric. It is almost impossible to eliminate or mask such damage.

Step 2

Sew on the outside of the handles. This is a versatile option that will fit almost any model. Roll two strips of leather of a suitable length into tubes and pass a strong cord inside, which should be several centimeters shorter than the strips. When sewing together the edges of the strips, make sure the stitches end 5 cm from the ends. Straighten the edges so that they form triangles and sew them to the outside of the bag. As an extra decoration, string wooden rings or faux pearl chains around the handles.

Step 3

Attach the handles with metal rings sewn into the fabric. Enough for 2-4 rings on each side, depending on the size of the product. Having passed a cord or a dense fabric rolled up in a bundle through the rings, the bag can be pulled together in the manner of a bag or sack. The handles can also be made of braided leather cords or a chain on which the bag is strung. Typically, this method is suitable for soft leather, leatherette or suede products of undefined shape.

Step 4

Use hard material handles to give your bag a retro charm. Carved wooden handles, thick plastic rings, or large kiss-clasps can be found at flea markets or in Grandma's closet. They are sewn into the side or top seam of the product. If the bag is made of soft fabric, you can collect it with decorative folds so that they diverge from the center of the fastener to the edges.
