Felt making is one of the most affordable and easiest ways to make toys, jewelry, shoes, and even clothes. Of course, making hats and coats requires learning various felting techniques and gaining experience. But even a beginner can make a scarf or soft toy.

It is necessary

wool; - soap; - water; - film; - vinegar

Instructions

Step 1

Buy non-spun felt wool for felting. Merino is considered one of the most popular. When buying, expect that when felting, the wool shrinks 1, 5-2 times. Therefore, for a product measuring 50 * 50 cm, you will need 100 g of felt yarn. To decorate your products, purchase pieces of fabric, skeins of silk and linen threads, beads or beads. Buy bubble wrap that is 2 times the size of the item you are making.

Step 2

Place the film on the table, bubbles on top. Pull small threads off the wool fibers. Lay a layer of wool, lay the next thread strictly perpendicular to the bottom. Fold 4 levels, one on top of the other. If you want to decorate the fiber, then on the top layer form a pattern of threads and pieces of wool.

Step 3

Make an alkaline solution. Grate the soap. Dissolve it in 1 liter of warm water. Foam the solution thoroughly. Spray liquid onto the product until its thickness noticeably decreases.

Step 4

Cover the fiber with mica. Now rub the product with a little pressure. Wait until liquid stops flowing from under the film. Change the polyethylene to a thinner one and tuck it under the edges of the product. Continue rubbing the felt until it becomes denser. Now you can remove the film and continue to roll the fiber. Finally, rinse the felt in a mild vinegar solution.

Step 5

You can make beautiful scarves from felt. Take 100 g of wool. Place the bubble wrap on the table. Lay a silk fabric on top and only then lay out the wool. Alternate rubbing the entire canvas with twisting the fiber into a roll, periodically wring it out and continue to roll. Gradually the wool will combine with the silk base. Rub the patterns on the scarf especially carefully so that the lines do not become blurry. Otherwise, the felting process does not differ from the above.

Step 6

Try to create beads from felt. Tear off a small piece of wool. Do not forget that the material will decrease in size during the felting process. Roll a ball, bending the sides of the canvas inward. Saturate the fiber with soapy water and start rolling the bead between your palms. Roll the ball until it acquires the desired density. Rinse off the soap and let the bead dry. Also shape the rest of the beads.
