Today in stores there is a large selection of rocking toys in the form of deer, elephants, zebras and other insect animals. But in the overwhelming majority they are made of plush with foam rubber on a rigid base. But not every child has a wooden horse, and even made by the hands of the father.
It is necessary
Sheets of plywood 10-12mm thick, wooden beams, a pair of rake shanks, metal furniture corners for 2 bolts, jigsaw, drill, feather drills for wood, self-tapping screws
Instructions
Step 1
First of all, decide on the dimensions of the future horse, which depend on the age and size of your baby, so that it is convenient for him to climb in and out of himself, and he will want it for sure. Draw the shape of the toy on paper, draw the body of the horse without legs with dotted lines, and the legs with the approach to the body. This is necessary so that later you can imagine how to draw the details already to scale.
Step 2
And the details of the horse itself in the drawing will be only seven: a body with a head and a tail, a front leg, a hind leg, one guide, one crossbar, a vertical part of the saddle, a saddle. Draw these details on tracing paper already to scale, cut along the contour, circle them on the plywood sheets. Using a jigsaw, carefully saw out along the drawn contours.
It is worth noting that the bend of the guides or runners should not be very large, otherwise the rocking chair will lean forward too much and rears up, the child will fall off it. In a static horse position, 15cm from the ends of the runners to the floor will be more than enough.
Step 3
Before assembling, you will still need to drill holes in the front legs and in the horse's head so that the shortened cuttings inserted into them serve as a support for the baby's legs, and the handles for which he will hold on. They should be drilled with a feather drill, the diameter of which is the same or slightly less than the diameter of the rake cuttings you purchased. Also, before assembling, process all the places where the jigsaw went first with coarse sandpaper, then fine.
Step 4
Spend no time and effort in assembling the rocking chair: all connections should be not only glue and screws, use furniture metal corners for a more reliable fastening of parts. Since it is almost impossible to screw self-tapping screws into plywood, first drill holes for them with a diameter of 3-4 mm smaller, and when screwing in, wet them with water to reduce friction. In the neck and head of the horse, drill a series of holes through which you can pass pieces of rope, this will be the mane.
Step 5
After assembly, wipe off any excess glue. Paint your wooden horse in bright tones of acrylic and let it dry completely. Last of all, you can glue washers made of thick and dense rubber to the ends of the runners, they will be the limiters of too much swinging in order to prevent the child from falling.
