Children often like homemade toys more than purchased ones. The wooden boat is a traditional game popular with many generations of children. Such a boat perfectly floats on the water, it can be launched in a bath, a pond, a stream and even into the sea.
It is necessary
- - board 1-2 cm thick;
- - 2 slats with a cross section of 0.5 cm and a length of 10-12 cm;
- - thick threads or twine;
- - paper;
- - knife;
- - regular or electric jigsaw;
- - 2 small carnations;
- - scissors;
- - sandpaper;
- - file;
- - BF or nitrocellulose glue;
- - oil paints.
Instructions
Step 1
Draw the hull of the ship on the board. For a flat-bottomed boat, measure 15 cm long and 6-8 wide. The sailboat should be wide enough to provide stability. Saw a rectangle along the outline. Divide the short sides in half and draw the longitudinal axis.
Step 2
Determine where your sailboat will have its bow. Step 5 cm away from this edge along the long sides and make marks. Connect them to the middle of the nearest short side. Leave the nasal corner sharp, and it is better to round the cheekbones. This will provide the desired streamlining.
Step 3
From the stern side, retreat 3-5 cm along the sides. Connect the resulting points with a smooth curve, the convex part of which is directed backward. Make sure the stern line is symmetrical. Saw the hull of the boat with a jigsaw along the drawn outlines. At the stern along the longitudinal axis, make a 1 cm long cut with a jigsaw. The steering wheel will be attached here.
Step 4
Decide how many masts your boat will have. It can be made with one mast or double mast. On a single-masted sailboat, make a mark along the longitudinal axis at a distance of 7 cm from the bow. If you want to make 2 masts, mark 6cm and 11cm from the bow. Use a knife to make small longitudinal cuts in these places on the deck. Grind each rail from one end in the form of a flat spatula so that it fits into these cuts.
Step 5
Make the rudder feather from a plate split off with a knife from the scraps of the same board from which you cut the body. The steering wheel should not be too big. It is approximately 3 cm long. Insert it into the cut. It should fit tightly and protrude about 2 cm below the hull of the boat. Additionally, you can fix the rudder with glue.
Step 6
Cut the sails out of paper. In this case, they are rectangles. The sail must not be wider than the hull. On one mast there can be 1 or 2 sails, the upper one being smaller than the lower one. Make 2 holes in the rectangles. Put the sails on the masts. Insert the masts with the sharp ends into the slots on the deck. For strength, they can also be fixed with glue.
Step 7
Secure the end of the twine with a nail on the nose. Pull it along the tops of the masts so that the battens are pressed against the thread. Secure the other end with a stud at the stern. Place the ship on the water and see if it is stable or not. If the ship is unstable, shorten the masts. This is usually not required.
Step 8
After the test, take the sailboat out of the water. Dry it and paint with oil paint. It is not necessary to paint the masts.
