Making costumes and themed props is an integral part of the lives of people who have linked their lives with role-playing games. Very often in such games, a beautiful shield is required as an obligatory element of ammunition.
Instructions
Step 1
Take a sheet of plywood and draw a silhouette of the future shield on it - give it the desired shape. If you are making a round shield, then drive a nail into the plywood and tie a rope with a pencil at the end to it, with their help you can draw an even circle. Saw the workpiece with a jigsaw or saw. Do not forget to make a hole in the middle of the shield, which will allow your fist to pass freely.
Step 2
For the shield, make a handle and two holding bars. Attach them to the wrong side of the shield. For this, use nails with a head diameter of at least 6 mm and a rod diameter of at least 3.5 mm. If the nail sticks out from the back, bite off the tip with a pair of nippers.
Step 3
Cover the shield with leather, burlap, or linen. If you are pasting the shield with leather, then use fish glue, if with a cloth, then PVA glue. When gluing with a cloth, it is better to make several layers. Saturate the fabric with glue, paste over the shield. Drill the holes for the umbo.
Step 4
Make an umbon. It is usually knocked out of a steel billet with a thickness of at least 1.5 mm.
Step 5
Use leather, strips of metal, and studs to cover the edge of the shield. Choose small studs that won't cut through the plywood. Using two bolts, fix the umbilical and the handle to the shield. Wrap the handle with strips of leather so that it does not rub your hand when using the shield. If you pasted over the shield with leather, then drill holes around the entire perimeter with a thin drill and sew the leather with linen or nylon thread.
Step 6
Pierce the leather lining. Place metal plates at the joints, attaching them with studs or rivets.
Step 7
Use paints and stains to apply the desired patterns to the shield. Decorate the shield with metallic decorations. Attach a leather strap if needed for easy portability. Rub the surface with a wax candle and heat over a fire. The shield is ready.
