Flies are something without which full-fledged fishing is impossible. Some anglers prefer to buy ready-made in the store, while others make their own. Moreover, they admit that learning to knit flies is within the power of any person, even a man. Moreover, this activity is more than exciting.
It is necessary
- vice;
- clamp;
- scissors;
- threads;
- needle;
- tweezers;
- fur, wool, hair, feathers;
- glue;
- wax;
- hooks
Instructions
Step 1
Before starting knitting, decide on what kind of fish you will fish. The technology of making a front sight directly depends on this. After you have decided everything, you can get to work. Start knitting directly from the body of the product. It is made by winding the material on a hook. Remember that the main part of the front sight must be cone-shaped, therefore pay special attention to winding in the center of the base of the product. When knitting the body of the fly, remember that it cannot exceed the length of the hook in length. Leave room for legs, wings, and head. To do this, it is necessary to make an indent of about 3 mm from the hook ring. If you knit a body made of wool or feathers, then the winding must be fixed by treating it with varnish.
Step 2
When knitting, keep in mind the fact that all turns must be made with very precise movements and fit snugly against each other. If you want to make a front sight with bristles, then you must first make them separately and only then attach them to the general product. The bristles are added to the hook as follows: Tie them with special knitting thread to the hook. You can do this while winding the last layer of winding. Remember that the bristles must always lie at right angles to the body of the fly.
Step 3
Pieces of hair are attached to the general body in the same way as the bristles. The only thing to remember when performing this type of work is that each individual part, be it bristle, wool or winding, must be attached to the hook independently. And to secure it, you need to wrap it with several additional turns of the thread and tie it in a knot at the end.
Step 4
Fly legs are knitted from feathers, also using a crochet hook. You need to select it based on the thickness of the starting material. To get started, place the feather with one side towards the body of the hook. Source material, i.e. the feather itself, keep it taut at all times. The number of legs depends on the number of turns of the pen around the hook. Secure the result with knitting thread, laying it very tightly at the base of the leg.
Step 5
Now you can proceed to making the wings. And they cannot be neglected, because it has long been proven that fish take an artificial fly for a real one solely because of the wings. They can be made either 2 or 4 (paired). There are several rules to keep in mind when making wings. The material must be lightweight. Their size is approximately 3/4 of the total length of the product. The wings should be slightly raised. To achieve this, you need to wind them, scrolling the thread with a figure eight. If you want to make paired wings for your fly, then you first need to knit them as single ones, and then connect them.
Step 6
All elements are attached to the main body by the winding method and fastened with knots. For a more lasting result, the front sight as a whole can be treated with varnish or wax.
