A scabbard is a case in which sharp swords or knives are kept while worn. They were used back in the distant Middle Ages. They use the scabbard even now, only they are no longer made for swords, but more often for knives or pistols. What has the pistols to do with it? In fact, a holster for a pistol is the same scabbard, only they are called differently and are intended for other weapons. Try to make a scabbard yourself, it's not difficult.
It is necessary
So, you will need the knife itself, for which the scabbard will be made, paper or cardboard, a pair of wooden blanks with a length, width and thickness slightly larger than the knife blade, glue, pencil, file, sandpaper
Instructions
Step 1
First take a knife, place it on a piece of paper or cardboard, then transfer the knife blade to the paper with a pencil or pen. The scale should be 1: 1. Cut out a sketch of the blade.
Step 2
Next, take a paper sketch of the knife blade and attach it to one of the wooden planks. Carefully draw out the contours of the knife with a pencil, first on one bar, then on the other.
Step 3
Now take a good sharp knife to cut the excess fibers to a depth of about a millimeter within the delineated outline on each plank. Now take the knife you want to scabbard for, put the pieces of wood together and try to drive the knife straight into the scabbard. If the blade gets too tight, just cut some extra wood from the planks.
Step 4
Be careful not to cut more wood than you need to. Otherwise, you will have to figure out what to stick to so that the blade in the scabbard does not dangle. In this case, it will be easier to take a new bar and remove the excess from it.
Step 5
Give both scabbard blanks a more rounded shape with a file. After the file, use sandpaper to finalize all the details and remove small splinters and burrs.
Step 6
The last operation is the connection of both halves of the scabbard into one whole. Spread one of the blanks with a good glue, for example, "Moment" or "Titanium". Put both pieces together and place them under something heavy for a while. Just make sure that the workpieces do not disperse. Pull out the scabbard, cover them with paint and varnish or just varnish, make a strap for the scabbard (all optional). The scabbard is ready.
