If you are into RPGs and are serious about historical reenactment, you know how important it is to have authentic historical gear in play and how important it is to be able to craft it yourself. Weapons play a key role in any RPG. And if your look includes knives, daggers or swords, you need a comfortable scabbard. You can make such a scabbard to match the historical wooden scabbard yourself.
Instructions
Step 1
Take two identical strong planks, the same length as the length of your knife or sword and a width of 1.5-2 times the width of the knife handle. Work the planks with a plane and sandpaper until they are snug against each other.
Step 2
Place the knife on both halves of the future scabbard and trace it around the contour with a pencil. Then turn the knife 180 degrees and trace again. On the side of the handle, at the end of the future scabbard, outline the depth to which you need to select the wood under the knife handle.
Step 3
Along the formed contour, select wood from the blanks using a hand cutter or a drill with an appropriate attachment. The finished sample should look like a funnel gradually tapering downward. The handle of a knife or sword should fit snugly against the scabbard at its mouth.
Step 4
Make sure the slit is wide enough to allow the knife to fit into the sheath, but narrow enough to keep out water and dirt. Glue the scabbard halves together using two-component epoxy with wood chips.
Step 5
After the glue has set, process the surface of the scabbard - sand it and varnish it if necessary. At the mouth of the scabbard, fasten the side 5x5 cm to fix the suspension loops on it. Wrap the finished sheath with a thin nylon cord and saturate the winding with epoxy resin.
Step 6
Additionally, you can drill several holes in the scabbard and stitch them for strength. Polish the surface of the scabbard, cover it with wood impregnation or stain. If desired, cover the sheath with leather.
