When studying bird species with a child, it is not necessary to limit yourself to pictures from encyclopedias and the Internet. Volumetric models of birds, molded from clay, will become not only a visual aid, but also a decoration of a children's room.
It is necessary
- - clay;
- - stack;
- - a toothpick;
- - oven;
- - acrylic paints;
- - brush;
- - varnish.
Instructions
Step 1
Buy modeling clay from an art supply store. Before use, knead it in your hands for 2-3 minutes to make the material more plastic. This procedure cannot be neglected, because air bubbles may remain in the insufficiently crushed material, which will lead to cracking of the clay during firing.
Step 2
Divide the "dough" into three sections: for the head, torso and tail. Refer to the photograph of the bird to calculate the proportions.
Step 3
Roll a ball out of the portion intended for the head. Then flatten it slightly at the top and bottom to make it look like an ellipse. Pinch off a piece of beak from a piece of loose clay. Make it in the shape of a cone and attach it to the bird's head. Using a stack, brush the edges of the part to hold it in place.
Step 4
Also, first give the blank for the torso a ball-shaped shape, then stretch it a little, align the back and round the belly of the bird.
Step 5
Make the tail oblong and refine its shape, focusing on the photo.
Step 6
Connect all the parts together. To do this, apply thin layers of clay to their joints and smooth them using a stack and fingers. In this case, your fingers can be slightly moistened with water.
Step 7
Use a toothpick to squeeze out small details on the surface of the toy: round eyes, halves of the beak, and strips of feathers on the wings and tail. Smooth the surface that should remain without patterns with a synthetic brush soaked in water. Press the bird's belly against the table surface to stabilize it.
Step 8
Leave the finished figurine in a dark place for a week and a half, then place it in the center of the oven, leave it ajar and gradually bring the temperature to 200 degrees. You need to cool the product also gradually. When the bird is completely cool, remove it from the oven and paint with acrylic paints for porous surfaces. The result can be fixed with matt varnish.
