Rock over the Volga is one of the largest open-airs in Russia dedicated to rock music. Every year, thousands of guests come to the venue of the festival in Samara, including even foreign ones.
The festival "Rock over the Volga" was first held in 2009, and even then gathered a fairly large number of spectators - 150 thousand people. The list of participants changes annually, but all past festivals were attended by such groups as "Alisa", "King and Jester" and "Chaif" and other equally popular groups.
One of the main differences of the Rock over the Volga festival from others like it is that not only Russian rockers, but also musicians from other countries participate in this event. In 2009, they were Apocalyptica, in 2010 - Deep Purple, a year later ex-Nightwish vocalist Tarja Turunen and the Skunk Anansie group visited Samara, and in 2012 Garbage, Limp Bizkit and the singer ZAZ became guests of the festival.
In 2012, in addition to the three above-mentioned groups and permanent participants, the groups Bi-2, U-Peter, Leningrad, Mordor, Aquarium, as well as Igor Rasteryaev and guests from Ukraine - the group "Okean Elzy".
Rock musicians are usually invited to participate in the festival, but there are frequent cases of appearing on the lists of performing artists who work in parallel in other musical genres. So, in 2009, "Rock over the Volga" was visited by Tatyana Zykina, whose work is often referred to the genre of pop-rock. A year later, a representative of folklore rock Pelageya came to the festival, who was greeted by the audience as warmly as the representatives of classical rock music.
In the future, the founders of "Rock nad Volga" plan to again invite Russian and foreign pop stars, the list of promising participants in the event from abroad includes such groups as Rammstein, No Doubt and many others. A more detailed list of participants in the next festival can be found on the official website of "Rock on the Volga" - Rocknadvolgoi.ru.
