Instructions

Step 1

Choose a training system for obtaining an international captain's license. There are two recognized schools in the world that allow you to do this - IYT (International YachtTraining) and English RYA (Royal Yachting Association). There are IYT branches in Russia, and RYA - only abroad. To study at the Royal Yachting Association, knowledge of English is required at the Inetrmediate level.

Step 2

Pay for the courses. Complete 3 tutorial steps. Stage 1 - 70 hours of theory. It usually takes place in the fall, winter or spring. Stage 2 - practice. Start practicing no later than 6 months after the theoretical course. This stage lasts 14 days and takes place under the guidance of an instructor in one of the waters. Stage 3 - passing exams and obtaining an international captain's license.

Step 3

When the license is obtained, do not rush to rent a yacht right away. Going as a captain right off the bat is dangerous. Find the ship that requires a senior mate. Play this title for one or two seasons to get skills in real conditions and visit different situations.

Step 4

When invaluable experience is gained, you can rent a yacht. Choose a calm water area to start. The waters off the coast of Turkey are suitable. At first, it is best to sail as part of a flotilla - a group of several yachts. It will probably have more experienced captains who can help in a difficult situation.

Step 5

As a captain, take the SCTW-95 / STCW-78 course (Preparing Chartered Seafarers for Watchkeeping). This is the professional training that all seafarers need. The courses teach first aid, fire fighting and emergency behavior. They are taught at the official Coastal Training and Training Centers (BUTC), which can be found in Moscow and St. Petersburg.

Step 6

After obtaining a license and gaining experience, go to sea at least once a year. Without practice, the skills will quickly be forgotten, and everything will have to start over.
