The main idea of any backsplash in the kitchen is not only to protect the walls from grease, but the attractiveness of the space between the cabinets. The most popular and ideal type of finish is tiles. It is durable and easy to clean.
It is necessary
- - tile;
- - sandpaper;
- - tile adhesive;
- - notched trowel;
- - tile cutter;
- - damp sponge.
Instructions
Step 1
The distance between wall cabinets and bedside tables should be 50-60 cm. Add 10 cm to this value so that the apron goes behind the hanging cabinets and is below the level of the table top. The apron should extend in width beyond the side cabinets.
Step 2
Draw a diagram for the layout of the tiles. Prepare the wall surface where the tiles will be laid. To do this, disassemble all switches and sockets. Insulate all wires.
Step 3
Take a coarse sandpaper and sand the wall to roughen it so that the mastic will adhere better. Remove dust and prime the surface.
Step 4
Make a horizontal, straight line for the bottom row. Mark a vertical line in the center of the apron.
Step 5
Lay the tiles on the floor in the order in which they will be on the wall. The dimensions must match.
Step 6
Prepare the required amount of tile glue or mastic. Do not make a large volume of mortar, otherwise the glue will dry out prematurely.
Step 7
Take a wide notched trowel. Apply several strips of solution at a slight angle to the surface.
Step 8
Do not spread glue wider than eight tiles. There should be no voids in the glue solution. To make it easier to work, first coat the wall with a thin layer of glue with an ordinary spatula.
Step 9
Lay out the bottom row of tiles from the center of the wall. The edge of the tile should line up with the vertical line you marked earlier.
Step 10
Press the tile firmly against the glue and align. Lay out the entire bottom row. Remove excess adhesive around the installation.
Step 11
For the next row, apply fresh mortar to the wall surface. Lay decorative inlays, focusing on the vertical markings. Lay out the entire apron gradually.
Step 12
If you need to make inserts, use a tile cutter. To do this, draw a line with a pencil and cut off the desired piece.
Step 13
Start grouting the next day. Use a rubber trowel to grout the joints. Treat difficult areas and inner corners with a wet finger.
Step 14
Wait until the solution is completely dry. Use a damp sponge to remove grout marks from the tile surface.
