This idea of sewing a kitchen apron from an old men's shirt will not only save some amount of money, but also get an original, useful thing.
old or new unnecessary men's shirt, threads in color, braid (about 2 - 2.5 m, depending on the required length of the ties at the waist), materials for finishing (optional).
Before cutting, the old shirt must be washed and ironed thoroughly.
1. Fold the shirt along and mark the cut line - it should run from the shoulder line, if the shirt is without a yoke, or from the front corner of the yoke under the collar (the second option is shown in the diagram below). The cut line should end 3-7 cm below the sleeve, depending on the waist level of the person who will use the future apron most often.
Please note that if the described cutting line passes along the breast pocket, the pocket will have to be carefully peeled off beforehand.
The back of the shirt must be cut off completely, leaving only the collar on the stand behind.
2. Fold in the double cut edge, overlap with tape and sew a straight stitch.
Note! The braid should be long enough so that the free edge can be tied loosely at the back.
instead of braid, you can use a bias tape. In this case, we sew all the cuts with it, and the free "tails", which must also be sewn on a sewing machine, will serve as strings.
3. Decorate the apron to your liking - add flowers, contrasting fabric bows, embroidery or applique to it.
from the cut back, you can make a shuttlecock along the bottom of the apron to make it more authentic, and from the sleeves - one or two pockets.
