Getting started knitting a headdress, one has to face the problem of determining the correct size. By tying a hat to yourself, you can repeatedly try it on during the process, but if the hat is knitted with someone close to you, such an opportunity is often absent.
It is necessary
tape measure
Instructions
Step 1
One of the main measurements that will be needed when knitting a hat is the girth of the head. To remove it, the tape measure, which tailors use in their work, must be applied around the circumference of the head. It should pass along the most protruding place of the forehead, then above the auricles and close behind on the most protruding part of the back of the head. When passing the tape along the forehead, remember that it should go 1, 5-2, 5 cm above the eyebrows. When taking measurements, do not pull the tape too tight. The plane it forms must be parallel to the floor.
Step 2
According to the measurement results, the bottom of the headgear is tied first. Then the walls are knitted, which are formed by evenly adding loops in each row. Therefore, the next questions that arise when knitting a headdress are determining the height of the product and the diameter of the bottom.
Step 3
To determine the diameter of the bottom of the hat, divide the head circumference by 3, 14 and subtract 1-1, 5 cm. After the diameter of the circle equals the obtained value, stop making the increments and start knitting vertically. In order for the cap to fit the head well, most craftsmen recommend alternating the last rows with rows without increments.
Step 4
For example, you knit a hat with crochet stitches. The width of one row is approximately 1 cm. The required diameter is 13 cm. When the circle reaches a diameter of 9 cm, start alternating rows: knit one row without increments, one with increments. Then repeat the same. Then knit straight to the desired length.
Step 5
Divide the head circumference by three to determine the length of the garment. For a skullcap cap that barely reaches the ears, no additional increases are needed. If the cap reaches the middle of the ear, add 1.5-2 cm. For a product that covers the ears, add 3 cm.
