Once you have knitted the details of the product, you will have an equally important job of stitching them together. Different parts of the product are sewn with different seams. How not to be mistaken in your choice?
It is necessary
- needle;
- knitting needles;
- hook;
- scissors.
Instructions
Step 1
Before you start sewing knitted parts, they must be steamed and dried. This will give them their natural shape and size. For sewing, the yarn from which the product is knitted is most often used. But in some cases (too thick or noticeable seam, lack of yarn, etc.), you can also use a thread matched to the color of the product. It is necessary to sew the details from the wrong side so that the seams are neat and invisible.
Step 2
Usually they start to sew from the shoulders. To do this, use a seam "back to the needle", which is performed from right to left. Insert the needle from the wrong side to the right side to secure the thread. Next, sew 2 stitches forward, grasping the shoulder pieces of the back and front. Bring the needle back to the first stitch on the right side. The next stitch will go in the opposite direction again - to the end of the previous one. Make sure all stitches are the same.
Step 3
A crochet chain stitch is also suitable for hangers. It is very simple: pierce the fabric from the wrong side and pull the loop towards you, leaving it on the hook. Next, insert the hook into the canvas again, pulling the loop through the previous one. Continue this way along the entire length of the parts.
Step 4
Another method is suitable for thick yarn. When knitting, do not close the loops, but leave them on the extra knitting needle. When both parts are ready, sew them with a horizontal seam. Secure the thread at the beginning of the first buttonhole. Alternately insert the needle into the loops of one or the other part, gradually pulling out the knitting needles.
Step 5
Side seams are made with the above-described “back to the needle” seam or with a vertical knitted seam. Secure the thread near the armhole of the sleeve. Next, start sewing the details from the wrong side, capturing only the edge loops.
Step 6
The most basic step when sewing knitted pieces is to sew on sleeves. For convenience, divide the armhole into 3 equal parts and mark with colored yarn or pins. Make the same markings on the sleeve ridge. Using these marks, pin the details of the sleeves to each other or baste with ordinary thread. Next, start stitching with a chain stitch. After that, be sure to weld on the seams so that the sleeve does not puff up.
Step 7
The length of the sleeve is sewn with a vertical knitted seam or a chain stitch.
