When people talk about inflatable sleds, many people have an association with a cheesecake that can be made from a car camera. However, such sleds can be of any shape, including rectangular. You can make them from an inflatable mattress. They have a definite advantage over the cheesecake: they can be made manageable.

Step 1
For sleds, choose a mattress made of rubberized fabric. Plastic will not work because it can become brittle in the cold. A mattress with cylinders along the length and with a pillow is ideal. For the pillow to form a natural ridge, the cover should be 15-20 cm shorter than the base. The difference shouldn't be too big. Your task is simply to raise the pillow slightly.
Step 2
Inflate the mattress and measure it. You need to know the length, width and thickness. You can cut it straight from the fabric, but it is better to try to model the cover from paper or unnecessary fabric, like burlap.. Cut out 2 rectangles. Add thickness and allowances to the width of the mattress. You can add a couple more centimeters on each side. Subtract the length of the runner from the length of the mattress and add the thickness. … Cut a rectangle out of paraplen or penofol that exactly matches the size of the mattress.
Step 3
Cut out 2 of the exact same rectangles from the airfoil. Calendered nylon or lavsan are also suitable. It is better to cut such fabrics with a soldering iron. In this case, the cover is sewn in about the same way as a duvet cover, only you can sew with the most ordinary seam, not linen. Fold one rectangle in half lengthwise and burn a gap in it so that you can insert the mattress there. It is not necessary to process it, but you can strengthen the edges, for example, with a parachute line, which is sewn like a binding. But this part of the cover does not carry a big load, so just insert the eyelets into it.
Step 4
Lay the bottom rectangle face up. Place the parachute line on it so that its edges coincide with the corners of the rectangle, and the loop "looks" towards the middle. Baste the ends of the line. You can reinforce these areas with squares of the same fabric. Place the second rectangle face down, line up all the cuts, sweep them down, and sew. Unscrew the cover. Burn a hole for the valve through which you will inflate the mattress.
Step 5
Insert a paraplen or penofol pad into the cover. Penofol is placed with the foil down. Since the length of the spacer is longer than the length of the cover, it will bend in the form of a runner. The arc should be on the same side as the hinge. Insert the mattress. Lace the cut with a nylon cord and tighten. Hide the knot inside the cover. The loop is used for towing the sled. In addition, it can be used to control the sled when descending.
