Inflatable boats appeared in the 19th century and were made by hand. However, for two centuries, the manufacturing technology of such boats has hardly changed, and now there are craftsmen who make inflatable boats by hand.

It is necessary

  • - rubberized fabric
  • - glue
  • - tapes made of rubberized / non-rubberized fabric
  • - special pencils / crayons

Instructions

Step 1

Find the right rubberized fabric (PVC fabric is often used) and mark it on it using cardboard templates. The marking is done both by hand with special pencils or crayons, and using a mechanized method, which allows you to print the outline of the boat through stencils. Lay out the template and cut it out so that as little waste is left as possible, for this you can use projection devices.

Step 2

Proceed to building a homemade boat, start with the boards and follow a strict sequence of operations. Connect the individual parts with overlapping seams along the edges coated with glue with glued tapes 25-40 mm wide from a thinner fabric. But keep in mind, if you are using hot glue, take tapes from non-rubberized fabrics.

Step 3

The most difficult stage is gluing the bow of the sides, so cut out the whole panels. Assemble the individual parts by sequential connection with the formation of an overlap seam. Glue the partition inside the sides and seal with tapes for strength and tightness. The stern part is made in the same way as the bow.

Step 4

The final stage in the assembly of the sides is the joining of the right and left sides with one or two, depending on the design of your boat, circular seams, while the last of them should be butt-welded, do not completely stitch and seal with outer and inner tapes. After collecting the sides and pumping them with air, apply the bottom and glue its edges with reinforcing tapes. Then install the parts - transfer handles, rail washers, oarlocks and tie the rigging. Let the boat dry, and then inspect and test. You will need to equip the inflatable boat with oars, seats, flooring, a fur pump, etc.
