The processing of the neckline is usually performed after the fitting to clarify its shape. The sequence of processing can be changed if sewing is carried out according to ready-made patterns or due to special instructions in the description of the process.
Instructions
Step 1
If the garment has a lining, the best finishing is edge to edge. An excellent result does not require a lot of time. To sew and process sections, use standard stitches, laying them close to each other. Additionally, between the layers, you can put lace or a frill made of fabric, go along the finished seam with beads. The bodice and lining are folded with the front sides, after which the neck is processed with a thin seam, which is always used for finishing thin summer fabrics. After that, the product is turned onto the front side and ironed on. If desired, one more decorative stitch is made on the front side; in this case, you need to act extremely carefully so as not to pull the fabric.
Step 2
No less popular is the method of processing the neck with a cut trim. The edging should be cut out perfectly flat and as narrow as possible, since when sewing from thin fabrics, it will shine through to the front side. On the front side of the product, the facing side is applied inward, already closed into a ring, i.e. joined at the seams, and sweep in small stitches. Then, on the wrong side of the product, non-woven fabric is applied, cut out in the form of a facing, with the glue surface up and also swept. The neck is grinded, the allowances are notched, the basting line is removed. The edging is directed to the wrong side and swept out with a roll of fabric. The wrong side of the facing is aligned with the adhesive surface of the non-woven fabric. The inner edge of the facing is overcast along the edge with one seam along with the non-woven fabric. While ironing the neck, it is glued at the same time.
Step 3
Often, the neck is processed with a tape made of the same fabric as the main product. The inlay is made as follows: the fabric is cut obliquely (i.e., diagonally with respect to the warp threads) in strips 3.5 cm wide. The strips are folded with the front side inward and ironed well. The allowance for the neck seam is cut by 6 mm, an ironed inlay is applied to the front side of the product, the cuts are leveled and adjusted. Then the binding is folded to the seamy side so that it is completely invisible from the face. The edge is ironed very carefully with the tip of the iron. After that, the front side is sewn along the edge, retreating 2-3 mm.
Step 4
In designer products, the neck without a collar can be processed with knitting threads using a crochet hook or knitting needles, decorated with ribbons, beads or beads. Imitating a collar, laces or frills from the main or contrasting fabric of the product are sewn onto the neckline. The fabric of some products allows you to leave the neck untreated, as it does not crumble.
