A portrait of your mom can be a great gift. Even a sketch that is not very successful will surely be framed with love and placed in a prominent place. Try to draw with a pencil - even an inexperienced portraitist can do it. Take your time, then mom will definitely appreciate your efforts.

Instructions
Step 1
If you want to achieve portrait likeness, find some good pictures of your mom. Choose the one that you like best, and that is what you take as the basis of your portrait. Examine the face depicted. Estimate the size of the eyes, the height of the forehead, find individual features - for example, dimples in the cheeks or unusual curvature of the eyebrows.
Step 2
Attach a piece of paper to your tablet - this will make it easier to draw and shade outlines by rotating the portrait. Draw a rectangle in the center. Mark it with straight lines. The first horizontal line should be at the level of the eyebrows, the second - where the nose ends. A vertical line divides the rectangle in half. The result is the simplest grid on which you will build your face.
Step 3
Add cheekbones and eye sockets - otherwise the image will look too smooth and flat. Draw a line for the nose. Use thin strokes to outline the contours of the face, noting its features: a pointed or square chin, roundness or thinness of the cheeks.
Step 4
Draw the eyes and lips, outline the eyebrows with thin strokes. Compare the drawing with the original. At this stage, the similarity will be subtle, but the proportions of the face must be portrayed correctly.
Step 5
Take a soft pencil and start drawing and shading. They will give the face volume and liveliness. Check the photo constantly. Darken the eye sockets, the area at the temples, the dimple at the chin. With a sharpened pencil, draw the outlines of the lips and eyes. Darken the irises, leaving highlights.
Step 6
To give the skin an even tone, walk over the pattern with a paper towel or cotton swab. After that add more shadows. Take an elastic band and place the highlights on the prominent parts of the face - cheekbones, forehead, chin.
Step 7
Pay special attention to your hairstyle. Mark the parting line and from it begin to apply even parallel strokes, imitating individual hairs. Lead them in the direction of growth. If your hair is curly, highlight the highlights on the curls. Take your time: come back to the picture again and again, add shadows, achieving the effect of lively shiny hair. Please note that the hairstyle consists of separate strands - it should not lie in a continuous mass.
Step 8
When you finish drawing, take a wide brush and go over the drawing with it. You will smooth out the strokes and make the shadow transitions softer. Take an elastic band, sharpen the corner with a clerical knife and once again go over the strands, highlighting individual areas. Move the elastic from top to bottom, repeating the curves of the curls.
