There are several types of skirt fasteners: hooks, buttons and zippers. Zipper is the simplest and most convenient option. It is sewn into the left side or center seams. This process requires precision and minimal sewing machine skills.

It is necessary

  • - sewing machine;
  • - threads to match the color of the fabric;
  • - needles;
  • - pins;
  • - scissors;
  • - one-horned sewing machine foot;
  • - glue.

Instructions

Step 1

Stitch (sew together) parts of the skirt to the location of the intended location of the zipper. Fasten the beginning and end of the seam in a reverse or knot the ends of the threads.

Step 2

Trim off excess fabric if it has formed. Overcast loose edges.

Step 3

Glue strips of glue from the inside to the allowances at the place where the zipper is sewn in, bend them and iron them. Adhesive is needed so that the seam does not "pull" the fabric and does not deform it after sewing in the zipper. The size of the adhesive strips must correspond to the size of the allowances.

Step 4

Match the skirt zipper to the color of the fabric. Open it and attach it to the cut so that the edges of the links coincide with the ironed sides of the product. Place the top links 1-1.5 cm below the top edge of the skirt, leaving room for attaching a belt or piping. Pin the zipper to the fabric in this position, then baste one half from the front of the skirt.

Step 5

Close the zipper and baste the other half in the same way, aligning the top cuts. If you did everything correctly, then the edges of the fabric should converge and close the zipper without distortions or folds.

Step 6

Place the one-way (“half”) zipper foot in the machine. If it is absent, you can use the usual one, but care must be taken that the line does not bend. Thread the machine to match the color of the fabric.

Step 7

Sew in the zipper from top to bottom on one side and bottom to top on the other. The seam must be continuous. When passing from one side to the other, make a line in the form of the letter "P" or "L" (triangle), placing them above the cross brace at the lower end of the zipper. Secure the stitch using the same method as described in the first step.

Step 8

Remove the basting.

Step 9

Sew the free edge of the zipper tape from the wrong side to the allowances of the middle or side seam of the skirt.
