Paperclay is one of the most suitable materials for making dolls. You can sculpt large parts from it if you need to make parts of the character's body. Or overlay the thinnest layers when you need to correct inaccuracies. The finished doll can be made with almost any paint.
Instructions
Step 1
Draw a sketch of the doll you want to make. Sketch her image in front view, profile, draw a back view. All this is necessary in order not to forget in the process of work what result you are striving for. Also at this stage, determine and write down the dimensions of all parts of the toy. If you want her to stand or sit, consider where the center of gravity will be and how you can add stability with accessories or a stand.
Step 2
Make a wire frame. It is very important to choose a material that is ideal for this purpose. You will need a wire that bends well, holds its shape, does not break and does not unbend over time. The cross-sectional diameter of the wire should be approximately 3 mm.
Step 3
Twist the one-piece frame or assemble it from separate parts. In the second case, make sure that the joints do not move. Otherwise, it may cause the finished doll to split. Strengthen the joints by wrapping them with thin wire or thread and smearing them with glue.
Step 4
Those parts of the doll that will be hidden under the clothes can be molded from paper glue, sewn from fabric or replaced with soft winding. If you choose the latter option, wrap the frame with padding polyester or cotton wool and secure the shape by sewing with threads. You can also prepare the "insides" for the head to save plastic material and make the toy lighter. Just make sure that the base keeps its shape well - fasten with threads, glue. Wrap the thread on the rest of the frame so that the paper-glue sticks to them better.
Step 5
Apply paper glue to the frame. In undiluted form, it can be applied in layers, shape parts of the doll with your fingers, and then work out smaller details in stacks. If the shape or size of the part does not suit you, dilute a portion of paper glue with water to a gruel state. Distribute it evenly, increasing in size and reshaping. The eyes of the doll can be painted on the face with a toothpick or you can insert ready-made accessories for toys.
Step 6
When the material hardens, sand it. To do this, take the finest sandpaper. Paint the smooth surface with acrylic paints and, if necessary, tint with decorative cosmetics.
