Manipulating layer transparency allows you to achieve many interesting visual effects. Tools for this are available in many graphic editors, and Adobe Photoshop is no exception.

Instructions
Step 1
Open Adobe Photoshop and create a new document in it. To do this, click on the "File" menu item, in the menu that appears, click "New" (or a faster option - use the key combination Ctrl + N).
Step 2
Find the Layers panel, by default it's at the bottom right of the screen, but if it's not there, press F7. Select the "Layers" tab. At the moment, only the background can be seen in the list of layers, so create another layer. This can be done in several ways. The first is using the "Create a New Layer" button located at the bottom of the "Layers" tab. The second is by clicking on the menu item "Layers"> "New"> "Layer". The third is using the Shift + Ctrl + N key combination. A window will appear in which you can specify the name of the new layer, the color with which it will be displayed in the list of layers, the blending mode. Also, already at this stage, at the stage of creation, you can make the layer translucent. To do this, in the "Opacity" field, specify 50% and click "OK".
Step 3
Make the foreground color red. Activate the Fill tool (hot key G, switching between adjacent elements - Shift + G), its icon is made in the form of a bucket from which paint is poured. Click the left mouse button on any part of the working area of the document, and it will be completely painted in a color that resembles a shade of red. This happened because the layer is already translucent. Click on the eye icon near the background in the layers panel to hide it, and you will see that background "checkers" are visible through the layer you created.
Step 4
There is another way to change the opacity of a layer. On the "Layers" tab there is a "Opacity" field, which can also be used for these purposes. At the moment, you should already have 50% there.
Step 5
It doesn't make much sense to save this document, but if you still want to, press the key combination Ctrl + Shift + S. In the window that appears, specify the location to save, give a name to the future file, in the "Files of type" field, put Jpeg (if you want to see the final result) or Psd (if you want to save the document itself) and click "Save".
