First you need to go to the store and choose a fresh ginger root with buds and shoots. It is important that it is shiny and smooth, with shoot buds. You cannot choose frozen or dried root for planting. We leave it in warm water for 5 hours, then divide it into several parts. To avoid fungal root diseases, it must be cut with a clean knife, and the edges must be treated with a weak solution of potassium permanganate.
No less attention should be paid to the ginger soil. It should be light, soft and loose. It is better to choose a pot low, but wide. The ginger root should only be horizontal in the soil so that the cut is at the bottom. Next, fill it with a small layer of soil (no more than 5 cm). It is better to plant the root in late winter or early spring, and after 8 months you can already harvest. After planting, the plant will delight the first shoots in 14 days.
To harvest a rich harvest of ginger from the windowsill, you need to properly care for the plant. Before the first shoots, we put the pot with the root in a dry and cool place, the temperature in the room should be about + 15 ° C. After that, a warm and humid place is chosen for the ginger, but it is important that the sun's rays do not fall on the plant. The ideal option is partial shade.
It is important to monitor the condition of the soil, it must be regularly moistened and not allowed to dry out. But an excessive amount of water is detrimental to the ginger root - it will rot. Also, the plant needs to be fed with fertilizers rich in phosphorus and potassium, once every 3 weeks.
