Preparation of materials

To weave a bag you need:

- 100 m of rope 2-3 mm thick, hemp, jute or synthetic threads will do;

- scissors.

Prepare the material. Cut 17 strands 4-5 m long each and one warp strand 4.5 m long. Fold the warp thread in half, lay the warp on a flat surface and fasten.

Fold the rest of the working ropes in half and attach to the base thread. This should end up with 36 ends of the rope along with the two sides of the warp thread.

Bag weaving technology

Distribute all threads in 4 pieces. Then weave a mesh of square (double) flat knots. About 40-50 cm long, depending on the desired size of the bag.

Strip off the canvas with an iron from the wrong side (from the front the knots should remain convex) and start weaving the sides of the bag.

Fold the canvas in half, right side out. Cut three strands of 4.5 m each. In the place of the fold, secure the ropes folded in half. Thus, you get 6 threads for weaving the side of the product.

Tie on the outermost three strands in a double flat knot. On the left side, make a left flat knot, and on the right, respectively, right. In the next row, on 4 strands in the middle, weave a triple flat knot. Hook the outermost threads into the main fabric and tie 2 double flat knots. Continue to weave in this way to the top of the bag.

Weave the right side of the bag using the same principle. This technique allows the sides to be firmly attached to the front and back of the bag without stitching.

Continue weaving the right side of the bag on six threads, so this part will smoothly merge into the handle part. Weave in the chosen pattern a long strap large enough to carry the purse over the shoulder. Steam the handle piece through damp gauze and sew to the second side of the bag.

Weaving Bag Clasp

On the back, mark the middle. Cut 2 strands 10 and 30 cm long. Attach them to the top. A smaller segment will serve as a base, and a large thread will be a working thread. Braid the base with equal flat knots, resulting in a twisted chain. Braid it to the required length. Cut the end of the thread, fold the chain in half and sew on the end.

Weave a button using this technique as well. Remnants of threads are suitable for its manufacture. Pin the left end of the rope near the surface. Make a loop, with the long end over the short end. Fasten the loop and make another over the first, with the long end under the short side of the rope. Pass the long section through all the loops and tighten the knot. You will get a round and three-dimensional part. Cut the ends and sew the button to the front of the bag.
