It is not for nothing that macrame is considered one of the oldest types of needlework. This knot was used by the ancient fishermen of Malta and the Canary Islands to make nets. Later, macrame was used for the manufacture of jewelry, clothing and interior items. Today everyone can master the techniques of macrame and for this it is not necessary to attend courses or enroll in a special school. You can learn the art of weaving on your own.

It is necessary

  • - semi-soft pillow;
  • - safety pins, scissors, measuring tape;
  • - threads for weaving;
  • - macrame books or macrame websites.

Instructions

Step 1

Pick up yarns or ropes for braiding. It is worth starting with well-twisted threads of medium thickness. For the first lessons, it is better to take a linen or hemp rope, linen cord, twine, harsh yarn. Do not use shiny or gliding threads for training

Step 2

Find the simplest macrame literature for beginners for self-study of weaving technique. Or, on the Internet, select a resource dedicated to this type of needlework. When searching, be guided by vivid visual illustrations and simple descriptions of knot tying techniques. Remember that on some sites weaving patterns can be downloaded.

Step 3

Make a special pillow for work. Take a plywood board measuring at least 30x45 cm. Wrap the pillow with foam rubber and secure it with several stitches. Cover the resulting blank with a dense plain fabric. It's good if the fabric is light. In the beginning, you can use a backrest from an upholstered chair instead of a pillow.

Step 4

Tie the first thread on the pillow. This will be the basis for attaching the working threads. Using the pictures, try several ways to secure the working threads to the base. Do not take very long threads, they are more difficult to work with and their length is not important for samples

Step 5

Master the basic knots. All compositions in macrame are formed by interweaving of loops and knots. Complete a few of the simplest knots. Carefully compare the knot in the picture with the resulting knot on your board. Perform a rolled oats and a flat knot. Try to weave twisted and straight chains. Having mastered these nodes, proceed to the implementation of relief elements in macrame: pico, berry pattern, chameleon pattern, etc.

Step 6

Try to create a wide canvas by securing several working threads on the base. Use square knots for this in a checkerboard pattern. Perform a checkerboard on a corner and a lattice pattern.

Step 7

Familiarize yourself and practice in performing a rep node (also known as a double node) and compositions with this node. Make some ornamental knots: twins, Josephine, Turkish knot.

Step 8

As soon as you master the techniques of tying basic knots, you can safely start weaving simple products for beginners. You can weave a pendant with additional decorative elements (beads) or a multi-colored belt.
