There are 2 versions about the origin of the word "macrame". According to one of them, it appeared from Arabic, where lace, fringe and braid were called so. On the other - from the Turkish language, where this word meant "scarf". Nowadays craftsmen use knotted weaving technique to make accessories, clothes, napkins, panels, curtains, lampshades and much more.

It is necessary

  • - threads and ropes;
  • - small and large scissors;
  • - tape measure;
  • - ruler;
  • - needles;
  • - metal knitting needles and a crochet hook;
  • - awl;
  • - clamp.

Instructions

Step 1

Prepare the necessary materials and tools. The macrame technique is very affordable, since specific devices are not required for this, but simple tools are needed that can be found at needlewomen. You will also need to have an awl on hand to untie improperly tied knots without problems. And prepare the clamps for attaching the threads.

Step 2

You can weave from a wide variety of materials. It can be floss threads for making baubles, earrings and necklaces, all kinds of synthetic and leather cords for making belts, bracelets and wallets. All ropes are also suitable for weaving: twine, hemp, jute, linen and linen. That is, you can weave macrame from a wide variety of threads.

Step 3

You should not immediately start making products. Practice doing basic knots. They should be smooth and neat. Try to tighten them evenly and bring the weaving of individual elements to automaticity.

Step 4

The main element on the basis of which a wide variety of knots are woven is a flat knot. It got its name from the fact that the fabric, woven in this way, turns out to be even and the same on both sides.

Step 5

Cut 2 pieces of rope, 1 m each. Fold the threads in half so that one end is 4 times longer than the other (one side will be 0.2, and the other - 0.8 m, respectively). Fasten them on the base so that the short sides are in the middle (these are the warp threads), and the long (working) ones are at the edges.

Step 6

There are 2 types of flat knots: right and left. Weave the first as follows. Take the right thread in your right hand, bend it at a right angle and lay it over the warp. Then take the left working thread with your left hand, put it on top of your right one, then put it under the warp threads and pull it into the hole formed between the warp threads and the right working thread. Tighten the rope. The left flat knot is woven in the same way, but work begins with the left working thread.

Step 7

If you weave the same knots, you get a twisted chain. Accordingly, when weaving left flat knots, the chain will twist to the right, and if we weave right flat knots, then, respectively, to the left. If you alternate the left and right flat knots, you get a square knot, which is also the main one in weaving the canvas. To get a part of the required width, fasten several working threads and warp and weave a row with double flat knots. In the next, shift the knots, while the working threads will become the basis.
