Gilding is an adornment that can add uniqueness and sophistication to any thing, be it an interior element or a simple photo frame. One of the simplest methods of applying gilding at home is gold leaf gilding.
It is necessary
- - leaf potal or potale crumbs;
- - red bolus;
- - glue for gilding;
- - soft brush;
- - soft cotton;
- - gummilac.
Instructions
Step 1
Gold plating is used on a wide variety of surfaces: glass, cardboard, wood, plaster, metal, etc. You can use crumb chips (creates the effect of aging), sheet metal and rollers with gold.
Step 2
Prime the surface to be treated with a red bolus for better adhesion of the leaf. To apply the primer, you can use either a brush or a spray gun. Dry the primed surface for at least 2 hours.
Step 3
Treat the surface with a special glue for beading. Choose a very soft brush, as the glue should be applied in an even layer, there should be no brush marks or smudges. Let the glue dry. It should be sticky (but not runny). It is not worth checking the degree of readiness by touch, because fingerprints will remain on the surface. You should wait at least 20 minutes, after which you can continue working.
Step 4
Put on cotton gloves. Electrify a clean brush and run it over the leaf. Apply it to the prepared surface. Press down the leaf with a soft cotton swab. Subsequent sheets are applied with a slight overlap. The corners are processed separately, last but not least, small pieces of leaf are used for this. Use a clean, soft swab to remove any excess adhesive.
Step 5
Gilding with gold leaf rollers is done in the same way as leaf gilding. It is especially convenient to use them on narrow surfaces.
Step 6
For gilding with gold leaf, prepare the surface as described above. Sprinkle the surface with crumbs. Smooth out the adhered crumb with a soft cotton swab. Do not touch the surface with your hands, work with gloves.
Step 7
Prepare liquid gummilac (a mixture of dry shellac and alcohol) and cover the gilding with it. This will add shine to the item.
