The playing properties of a billiard cue depend on the wood from which it was made. Therefore, the material should be selected in accordance with the required criteria. It is better to make the impact part of a billiard cue from a winter saw cut hornbeam, dried in natural conditions. The fibers of the bar should be in a straight line on all four sides. The ideal option is a pure white hornbeam without spots and inclusions.
Instructions
Step 1
Prepare bars for the drummer, horizontal bar and jackdaws.
Step 2
In the block, saw out the wedge of the striker with an angle of 8 degrees. Make the jackdaws the same. Determine the thickness of the jackdaws by their number in cues. The thinner the jackdaws are, the more you make them in the set.
Step 3
In the block from which you are making the horizontal bar, cut out the reverse dovetail wedge. You can simply sharpen the block at an 8 degree angle.
Step 4
Now make the blanks for the docking part. You will subsequently glue the connector into the docking part. To do this, you can take a wedge and "dovetail", which remained after the manufacture of jackdaws and a horizontal bar. Keep in mind that if your bars are with a contrasting pattern, then at the junction of the cue the wood patterns will be different. If you want the wood pattern on the billiard cue to match perfectly, then cut out a wide daw and saw it in half.
Step 5
Carefully clean the inside and outside of the jackdaws. Bring the inner corner in the jackdaw to sharpness. Make sure that all jackdaws have the same wall thickness. Glue the prepared elements of the billiard cue.
Step 6
Wait for everything to dry well and proceed with the rounding process. This is the most laborious stage, requiring special patience and attention from the master. Round off in several stages with intervals of several weeks, months, so that after removing the next layer of fibers, an internal stress balance is established. Allow slight drift, later you will align it on the next pass.
Step 7
Place the connector parts and weight on the glue. Make sure that the wooden wall at the connection point does not come out too thin, for this purpose the female connector sleeve must be glued into the horizontal bar half. When making a hole for a connector or weight, hold the drill exactly along the axis of rotation.
Step 8
Now start gluing the heel, bumper rubber, textolite bushings on the connector. All that remains is for you to achieve the final size by sanding. Carefully and thoroughly remove all excess with a sandpaper. You will have a quality billiard cue.
