Starlings are said to bring happiness. They will rid your summer cottage of harmful insects. In order for the starlings to settle on your site for at least one summer, make a house for them. Most often, birdhouses are made from hardwood planks. But a house for one season can be made of corrugated cardboard.

It is necessary

  • - packing box made of corrugated cardboard;
  • - starch;
  • - twine;
  • - self-adhesive laminated paper;
  • - ruler;
  • - square;
  • - cardboard knife;
  • - scissors;
  • - compasses.

Instructions

Step 1

Cut 8 walls out of cardboard. They are rectangles 180x320 mm. Cook the starch paste. Synthetic adhesives will not work. They, of course, glue cardboard well, but they have a strong smell that can scare away birds. For the paste, boil 1 liter of water or less. While it boils, add 2-3 tablespoons of starch to a small amount of water and stir. When the water on the stove boils, pour the contents of a small vessel into it and keep it on the fire for 30 seconds. Then remove the paste and set it to cool. Let it cool slightly. It should stay warm, but not hot.

Step 2

The walls must be made double. Glue the rectangles in pairs. On one of the walls, determine the place for the taphole. Its center should be at a distance of 50 mm from the top edge of the birdhouse and at the same time on a vertical center line dividing the horizontal sides in half. The entrance itself has a diameter of 50-60 mm. It can also be square; on the back wall, make 2 pairs of holes to thread 2 strings through them. The pieces should be long enough to tie the birdhouse to the tree.

Step 3

Glue the walls back to back to form a box. Smear the side edges of the front and rear walls and glue the sidewalls to them. The planes should be located strictly at right angles to each other. To prevent the planes from shifting during drying, you can temporarily fasten them by piercing them with toothpicks or pointed matches at the seams. Wrap the whole structure with threads.

Step 4

Glue the walls back to back to form a box. Smear the side edges of the front and rear walls and glue the sidewalls to them. The planes should be located strictly at right angles to each other. To prevent the planes from shifting during drying, you can temporarily fasten them by piercing them with toothpicks or pointed matches at the seams. Wrap the whole structure with threads.

Step 5

For the roof, cut out a square, adding 3-5 cm to each side of the box. Glue the second plate of the pair onto it, leaving allowances, as in the manufacture of the bottom. Attach the roof to the box so that the smaller plate is inside. Let the structure dry. Remove the threads, pull out matches or toothpicks.

Step 6

If you make a birdhouse out of one cardboard, it will last only a few days. It is necessary to protect it from the effects of dampness. In this case, paint cannot be used for the same reasons as synthetic glue. The smell can scare birds away. Therefore, cover the birdhouse with self-adhesive tape in soothing colors. It is necessary to glue with an overlap, covering the entire outer surface.
