A fabric envelope will not be accepted in the post office, but it is much more durable and will last much longer. It can serve as an original gift wrapping or a full-fledged gift, especially if you decorate it with embroidery and applique work.

It is necessary

  • A square piece of fabric with a side of 102 cm;
  • Wide satin ribbon;
  • Bias binding to match the tape.

Instructions

Step 1

Sketch the front and back of the envelope. Think carefully about the embroidery design, if any, or appliqués. In advance, paint all the elements in full size (the envelope will be 50 * 50 cm), prepare patterns and materials for embroidery and applique.

Step 2

Fold in 1 cm on each side of the fabric and sew to prevent unraveling. Now, strictly in the middle of each side, make a dot mark. Connect dots on adjacent sides to form an inscribed rhombus.

Step 3

Decorate the fabric from the right side. Sew on appliqué details, embroider patterns, attach decorative elements.

Step 4

Align the three triangles exactly in the center of the envelope - the bottom one and two side ones. Pin the cuts of the satin ribbon along the alignment lines.

Step 5

Stitch the tape over the triangles so that it does not grip the bottom (it is effective to do this manually when you can control your work).

Step 6

Trim the edges of the upper triangle with a bias tape to match the tape.

Step 7

Measure out another piece of bias tape. Its length will be four times the side of the square. Pin it to the sides of the envelope so that the edges of the cut line up with the bottom of the envelope. You should get a kind of pen.

Step 8

Stitch the bias tape to the sides. You can put a postcard, bill, disk, or other flat object in an envelope.
