Sewing clothes for yourself is not easy, but interesting. Many people have a desire to try themselves in this business, but they are stopped by possible difficulties in the layout of the fabric and cutting. However, in any business, experience is required, and over time this activity will only bring you pleasure.
It is necessary
- - a piece of cloth;
- - scissors;
- - pattern of your future product;
- - tailor's pins;
- - tailor's chalk or a piece of dry soap.
Instructions
Step 1
Conduct a wet-heat treatment of the fabric (decatting) so that the fabric shrinks not in the finished product, but even before cutting. Different fabrics can shrink more than once after washing. Wash, dry and iron. And if you are going to sew a jacket or coat, you can simply iron the fabric with steam and let it dry.
Step 2
When cutting, the fabric is folded in half and lengthwise, with the front side inward, edge to edge. To do this, you just need to have one paper pattern of all symmetrical parts. But if the fabric with a checkered or striped pattern, with large patterns, the fabric should be laid out in one layer so that the parts of the pattern on the seams coincide. The same rule applies when cutting faux fur with long or medium pile, thick felt and other dense fabrics.
Step 3
Spread out the pattern wisely on the fabric, pinning it with pins to avoid accidental movement. With chalk, trace all the details clearly along the contour of the patterns, and then draw another line taking into account the seam allowance. Also note the darts and other markings.
Step 4
Cut the canvas along the second chalk lines. Try to keep the back of the scissors on the table when cutting the fabric. It is not recommended to cut by weight in order to prevent the fabric from shifting when cutting multiple layers. The piece of the pattern should be to the right of the scissors, and the fabric to be cut should be held with your left hand. Do not cut darts on parts. When cutting in a straight line, cut with the middle of the scissors. When cutting along smooth lines, cut with the ends of the scissors. Keep the narrow end of the blade underneath the fabric.
