Every boy has a dream in childhood - to make a wooden plane by himself. For many, this dream does not go away with age and develops into a hobby and even a lifelong work. If you have never tried to make your own wooden plane, then now the time has come.

Step 1

First of all, make a life-size drawing of the rib. To do this, specify the coordinates of the selected wing profile from the corresponding atlas. Cut the rib template out of thick material for easy transfer to the surface.

Step 2

Prepare a sheet of plywood 1, 5-2 centimeters thick and 30x160 centimeters in size, where 30 cm is its width and 160 cm is its length. The plywood sheet should be 5 centimeters larger than your rib. Lay paper or polyethylene on the surface of the plywood so that the rib does not stick to it when the plywood is where the wing spars, struts and rib braces are located.

Step 3

Nail wooden blocks 0.5x2x4 centimeters along the outer side of the rib. Then take the slats that form the frame of the rib, insert them into the breadboard, press them against the inner side of the blocks and secure. Cut the uprights and rib braces. Attach the braces to the airplane frame.

Step 4

Start gluing the aircraft parts together. Epoxy is suitable as an adhesive. Any wood glue can be used. Glue uprights and braces to the mounted rails. Without waiting for the glue to dry, glue the plywood wedges on top. To do this, apply glue to the entire inner surface of the wedge, then fix the wedge in the desired position using clamps or nails. Wait until the glue is completely dry.

Step 5

Once you've assembled the rib, use it as a prototype. For the first time, do not glue it, then to disassemble it for parts. Use each rib element as a template, multiplying them the required number of times. Make as many wedges as there are rib parts. If the airplane wing is tapered, make the necessary adjustments. After making the required number of parts, assemble your model. The plane is ready.
